Brigantes’ New World – Saturday 29 February, 2020

The Brigantes’ New World

The Brigantes presents Dvorak’s last and best-known Symphony No. 9, ‘from the New World’, side-by-side with the dark and emotional Cello Concerto of Edward Elgar featuring soloist Pepijn Meeuws. Opening the concert is a hidden gem of an overture by the conductor Sir Malcolm Sargent. His early ‘An Impression on a Windy Day’ is brimming with youthful ideas and influences and a with an ‘ear-worm’ tune to vie with the slow movement from the Dvorak!

Beethoven’s 5th – Thursday 17th October 2019

The Brigantes play Beethoven’s 5th!

A Classic FM perennial, Bruch’s beautiful first Violin Concerto is performed by Dutch rising star Lisa Jacobs. Paired with Beethoven’s most famous symphony, this programme is ideal for first-timers as well as seasoned concert-goers. The hidden gem is Raff’s orchestration of the great Bach Chaconne which opens the concert – wonderfully reimagined by a forgotten icon of the mid 1800s.

English Spring – Friday 5th April 2019

English String Music

Elgar’s gentle Serenade and Delius’ Two Watercolours are both evocative of a Spring night. Holst and Warlock’s suites of joyful dance music are virtuosic and exciting. You can also hear Purcell’s piquant Three Fantazias along with the music for Abdelazer, which includes the theme Benjamin Britten used for his Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra.
