The Brigantes presents a concert featuring pieces with their roots in Jazz, Blues and early American musicals. Gershwin immediately springs to mind of course, represented here by his Rhapsody in Blue and Variations on ‘I Got Rhythm’ for piano and orchestra. Also on the bill are Kurt Weill’s suite from The Lady in the Dark, a musical which he wrote with Ira Gershwin, and William Grant Still’s First Symphony, evocative of spirituals, blues and even quoting the tune I Got Rhythm!
